Tedo Vrbanec is a higher lecturer and a system engineer at the Faculty of Teacher Education, University of Zagreb. He received a BSc degree in Informatics from the Faculty of Organization and Informatics Varaždin, University of Zagreb 2001. In 2010, he received an MSc degree in information science from the Faculty of Organization and Informatics Varaždin, University of Zagreb. He received an PhD in 2025 from the Faculty of Informatics and Digital Technologies, University of Rijeka, with the topic The Detection of Paraphrasing Plagiarism by Using Deep Learning Models.
His scientific interests cover a wide range of topics in the fields of computer and information science and education. Over a long period of time, he has been involved in network and computer security, open source operating and software systems, Peer-to-peer technologies and simulation tools. Since 2014, his research focus has shifted to topics in the field of artificial intelligence, with an emphasis on machine and deep learning, including training deep learning models, natural language processing (NLP), semantic text similarity, Python programming and plagiarism detection. He is particularly interested in the application of pre-trained large language models (LLM) for the purpose of detecting covert plagiarism.
He is the author or co-author of almost 40 scientific and professional papers and has actively participated in numerous domestic and international conferences, including MIPRO, INFCON, ICERI and KDIR. His contributions in the field of detecting paraphrased plagiarism using deep learning and semantic analysis are particularly noteworthy.
He is the recipient of the Faculty of Organization and Informatics Award for academic success and the Rotary Club Award (both in 1999), as well as the Dean's Award of the Faculty of Teacher Education, University of Zagreb for achievements in work (2009).
